Laurel has been given multiple awards for both her medical and legal accomplishments, as well as writing multiple research and educational publications.

Laurel completed law school at Case Western Reserve University in 1993. She has been continuously engaged in the practice of medicine since 1981 in various arenas, and since 1993 has also practiced law.

Dr. Matthews has been a partner at a Premier Cleveland Law Firm, then moved to practice emergency medicine, finally devoting her career to both a medical practice and law firm.

Laurel completed her general surgery residency, moving into a very prestigious fellowship in transplantation surgery with Dr. Thomas Starzl. During that time, Laurel authored numerous clinical and research publications.

Dr. Matthews is Board Certified and Re-certified in Emergency Medicine, a Critical Care Specialty.

Laurel is licensed to practice law in both Ohio and California, as well as a licensed medical practitoner

Dr. Matthews is Residency trained in General, Vascular, and Thoracic Surgery and Fellowship trained in Multiple Organ Transplantation.

Laurel is a current member of multiple organizations in both the medical and legal professions. She is also a founding or board member of several organizations.
